Do I need a visa for the São Tomé and Príncipe?

Some visitors to the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe do not need a visa to enter and stay for up to a maximum of 15 days. This includes US & Canada nationals, UE nationals, as well as nationals of the countries listed below.

Travelling without a visa

You can travel to São Tome and Príncipe without a visa in the following instances.
Please note there are rules on travelling to São Tome and Príncipe without a visa.

1. No visa is required for nationals of the following countries

You do not need a visa if you are a national of one of the following countries:

2. Visa or residence permit for country of departure or transit

You do not need a visa for the São Tomé and Príncipe in the following instances:

Schengen country

If you hold a multiple-entry short-stay Schengen visa or an authorisation for temporary stay or residence permit for a Schengen country, you do not need a visa.

United States or Canada

If you hold a residence permit for the United States or Canada, you do not need a visa.
If you hold a multiple-entry visa for the United States or Canada, you do not need a visa.


3. Special passport holder

If you hold a United Nations Laissez-Passer (UNLP), also known as a UN passport, you do not need a visa.

The same happens if you hold a diplomatic passport, special passport, or service passport (official passport) from one of the following countries:

4. Visa at arrival

Nationals of the People's Republic of China (PRC) holding a ordinary or common passport are granted 30 Days Tourism/Business visa at arrival.
